Robert A. Farquharson
Mr. Farquharson “Robbie” as he is affectionately called by his peers, has been actively involved in the Trade Union Movement for the past twenty-one years.   His first job since finishing school was as a Bartender/Waiter at  the Sheraton Grand Hotel back in 1983.  A year later (1984) he joined Batelco as a Technician.

In 1994 he became the Acting Secretary General of the great BCPOU. Shortly thereafter he ran for the position of Secretary General and won.  In 2003 he ran for the position of BCPOU PRESIDENT and won.

Robbie has played a strong role in the BCPOU over the past years.  There was never a case term “unfair” from ZNS/Batelco made before our fearless Secretary General at that time that was not won by him.

Along with the Past Presidents of  the BCPOU he led many demonstration against the various corporations represented by the Union.  There was never a time when he was afraid to stand up for the rights of the workers.

Robbie has served in many capacities in the BCPOU including Shop steward, Chaplin, Director of the Medical Plan, Trustee of the Pension Plan, and now  President.  Some of his duties includes Contract negotiations, Industrial Relations, Education & Training, and head of the Consultancy Department of the BCPOU.  Chief Negotiator/Morton Salt and Freeport Flight Services.

He serves also as the Secretary General for the National Congress of Trade Union. He is also a member of the Constitution Commission of the Bahamas, and an Advisory Council on Labour to the Government of the Bahamas, Advisory Council to the Bahamas Financial Services Union.

He attends the Annex Baptist Church, and is married to the former Elizabeth Pratt, they are blessed with two sons.  He is well loved by his family, friends & the staff of the BCPOU

He will be offering himself again as President of the BCPOU in June 2006 General Elections
